~Vintage Cleaning Tips~

I thought I would share some of my cleaning tips.......
Tarnished Silver.........place item in an aluminium pan and cover with baking soda....pour over boiling water and allow to sit for a few minutes before removing and buff with a soft cloth.
Crystal......for foggy vases and such pour in undiluted vinegar and allow to sit for an hour or so......if need be add uncooked rice and shake to remove stubborn stains.
Mirrors......mix two parts metholayted spirits to 3 parts water into a spraybottle for streak free shine.
Carpets.....for a very hard to remove stain...try using white spirits on a clean cloth and blot the stain, turning the cloth frequently. (Before trying test on an inconspicuous area first)
Weeds....a natural weed spray, mix 3 cups white vinegar with 1/4 cup of dishwashing liquid, using a spray bottle, spray directly onto weeds (preferbly on a clear day).  Weeds will usually wilt and die within a week or so.
Vaccuum Cleaner....does your vaccuum cleaner leave a dusty smell in the air after cleaning...then try this....place a few drops of your favourite oil on a makeup pad and place inside the dirt catchment area (bagless vaccuums) or place drops on the bag itself (if using disposable bags) for a fresh smell everytime.
